Who we are
The Kraków Uhlan Squadron was founded in 1998 in Mogiła — a historic village that is now part of Kraków's Nowa Huta district — by cavalry enthusiasts led by Rotmistrz Henryk Bugajski. In 1999 the Kraków City Council unanimously confirmed the Squadron bearing the name of Marshal Józef Piłsudski.
For over 25 years the uhlans have accompanied Poland's most important patriotic ceremonies — at Wawel Castle, Kraków's Main Square and across the country — wearing historic uniforms of the Polish cavalry, from the Napoleonic era to the Second Republic. In 2013 the Squadron took part in the 330th anniversary of the Battle of Vienna on the Kahlenberg.
The Foundation (KRS 0000783088) supports the Squadron's mission: keeping cavalry traditions alive, patriotic education, animal welfare and sharing horses with children.
What we do
Historical reenactments
Cavalry shows in authentic uniforms — sabre, lance and cavalry drill.
Horse trail rides
Memorial trail rides across Małopolska, in partnership with the Region of Małopolska.
Horses for children
Children meet our horses, ride the squadron wagon and learn respect for animals.
Animal welfare
Daily, devoted care for our horses — a statutory goal of the Foundation.
Education
Living history lessons for schools and communities — the legend of the Polish cavalry.

Keeping the Squadron's horses costs around 25,000 PLN every month — feed, veterinary care, farrier, stabling and transport. For over 25 years Rotmistrz Bugajski has carried this mostly on his own. You can help — from anywhere in the world.
